Education Systems’ Analysis: Why They Don’t Thrive and How They Could

In this work we analyse the obstacles that prevent education systems from thriving and innovating disruptively. We provide evidence based on Estonia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, the United States and Spain. The results of the study suggest that the inefficiencies and relative stagnation of education in developed countries is due to a rigid framework for action due to the existing legislation. The narrower the framework for action set by government authorities, the lower the incentives for educational agents and the greater the complexity of the economic calculation task. This leads to a decline in the quality of education and deficiencies in the expenditure of capital (causing the costs of education to grow exponentially). The conclusion drawn is that education can only be improved by making regulations more flexible: a much broader framework for action encourages competition, generates incentives for improvement, makes it feasible to implement changes and facilitates economic calculation. All of this is conducive to disruptive innovations.
